Curitiba, capital of Paraná, Brazil, is known for innovative urban planning, green spaces, and cultural diversity. WAAVP Curitiba 2025 is going 100% green! The LOC is proposing that for every registration we have a tree planted (US$3,00). Our objective is to reach 3,400 trees to Zero our CO2 emissions for the conference. The public may want to contribute more, so we will leave a count down open in our official homepage. Companies and Universities will be invited to contribute, as well as families and laboratories. Our aim is to sequester more than 500 tons of CO2 in 30 years if we plant two hectares. We hope to reach our goal during the conference!
We definetely want to implement a voluntary tradition for the next WAAVPs, stablishing a regular contribution. The innitiative is supported by UNESCO and WWF. The WAAVP and OCT may stablish a long lasting collaborative work as our organization can have a very proactive role in recovering degraded areas in the Atlantic Forest, protecting the land of our future and givind social and economic benefit to local communities. Prof. Marcelo Molento coordinates the Global Health program at UFPR and it will be an honour to collaborate in this innitiative.
"Dear Friends, Welcome to the 30th International Conference of the World Association for the Advancement of Veterinary Parasitology, W.A.A.V.P.. Since Curitiba was selected as the host city, we have been very active in bringing you a special in-person meeting at Viasoft (viasoft.com.br) from August 17th to 21st, 2025."
"Curitiba is the capital of Paraná and is located in the Atlantic Forest biome in the southern region of Brazil. Curitiba is in the upper basin of the Iguaçu River and has a temperate climate. The area has a long history of the Jê and the Tupi-Guarani ethnic groups (Kainguangues, Guarani, Xetas tribes) that live, plant, collect, and hunt there. The name in the Guarani language means “Coritiba,” the land of fortune and wealth (animals, water, wood). Some of these communities can be seen resisting until today. Portuguese landowners began the city in 1640, 331 years ago. You can still visit the Itupava track, made by the Tupi, connecting the city valley at 720 meters above sea level to the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. So be prepared to learn some Guarani words/names once you visit the city (Bariqui, Umbará, Piraquara, etc.)."
